Why Choose Art?

When you buy artwork you get to relive the creative process with the artist. The work will inspire and entertain you with the creative use of material to make illusion, mood and action.

The paintings in this catalog are all original artwork. Some were created on the spot, en plien aire, others are from my studio easel and still others were done as demonstrations during one of the many classes and workshops I teach.

Artists can work from three motives, from life, photos or imagination. Always there is at least some imagination. No matter what the subject I am open to changes to the form or content that enhance the story and make a better painting. The goal is to capture something of a moment with subject, shape and color to delight and inspire.

If you would like to see more, contact me and I will send images directly to you or arrange a visit.

I accept commissions. If you have a photo to use as reference I am happy to translate it into a painting. Any subject is fine. Contact me for specifics.

Most paintings are shipped rolled in a tube. For these there is no shipping charge.

Local pickup watercolors are matted in a protective plastic sleeve.

Acrylic paintings have stained thin wood trim.

You may contact me with questions about the paintings, process or workshops.

Your purchase is guaranteed. If you are not happy with the painting simply return it to me with 10 days for a refund.

About the Artist

Steve Kleier

I was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1955. After moving around the midwest I attended Montana State University in Bozeman, and graduated with a BFA. I moved to Portland, OR in 1982 where I opened a business called Studio Backrounds where for over 20 years I supplied art and created commissions primarily for advertising photography. Clients included Tektronix, Microsoft, Stash Tea, Freightliner US Bank and many more. In 2004 I quit commercial art and joined the Oregon Society of Artists where I served on the board of directors and then began teaching drawing and painting. I continue there today with well attended classes. I create art regularly for exhibits and competitions and have over 20 awards.

I want my paintings to be energetic and fresh, to inspire people. I put down my best effort to capture not just the appearance of but an expression of the subject.
